Thank you for your kind-hearted post!  Please refer to the attached link.  A few months ago, I made every effort possible to help this Aidpage member find alternative transportation to and from his Doctor’s appointments besides the Veterans bus.  Using this form of transportation takes about 3 to 4 hours roundtrip for each Doctor’s visit.  He has endured multiple skin grafts, which has made his skin highly sensitive.  Being in a sitting position for long periods of time causes damage to his skin.  Unfortunately, I was unable to get find him the help he needs.  Perhaps you can contact him directly in a one-to-one message to let him know about it.

Independent housing vouchers represent a foundation of recovery and hope.  To the greatest extent practicable, we empower consumers with tenant-based housing vouchers which enhance individual choice, independence, and control over where a person lives and what services (if any) such a person decides to receive.  Systems of care are recognizing that access to safe, decent, and affordable housing is a medical necessity for many persons with disabilities.  Independent housing vouchers: deliver real therapeutic value; promote consumer empowerment; support both civil and disability rights; and are demonstrated to be radically cost effective when compared to high cost, high intensity, institutionalized care.  Such vouchers can be used in either the community or group settings—at the consumer’s discretion.  These vouchers are a logical extension of the concept, Money Follows the Person in which the consumer directs their own care and in this case, their housing as well.

hi, iv been trying to find some kind of help. im seeing a psychiatrist on a poor program, unemployed, and still living at a friends house. i pay them rent. the doctor keeps changing my meds every week, and most do not allow me to go near a stove, oven, drive, or use things like a sewing machine. and i constantly get debilitating migraines several times a week, making it so that i can not work. i dont have money for food, or rent, or bills. and im scared. i dont know what to do. im constantly filling out applications, but i dont get any callbacks. i need help.

It seems as though you have a few things going on here.

If you have been harrassed/abused at work and are about to be fired because of your sexuality, you must know that you are protected by law. Either your opwn personal attorney can assist you or you can seek assistance with the EEOC or ACLU

FAFSA can assist with financial aid and student loans for school. Also check with student services and the financial aid office on campus. You might want to check with fastweb for additional scholarship information. 

Without a job, more likely than not, you will need a co-signer, UNLESS you go to a "buy here/pay here" shop. You will most likely pay more , but you may not need a cosigner. ONE THING I DO WANT TO STRESS HERE- have a mechanic you trust, inspect the car completely BEFORE you sign!!! If you do not know one, you can have carchex do it for you. It is a @ $120, but they will go to the car and thoroughly inspect it for you. While I know its a lot of money upfront, the fact of the matter is, if you buy used, you want to make sure of what you are getting. You certainly do not want to sign for your car, drive it off the lot and have your engine die on you. Know what you are buying! HELLO,

   I fully understand how mean people can be in a work environment when it comes to a mental illness.  If you take med's they think your going to go "Postal", they make fun of you and also can make you work day hell.   Many people don't understand non-combat PTSD is a demon we have to fight everyday, We didnt ask or invite this into our lives, it was just something we went through that affected us and changed of whole life.  PTSD I feel is my own personal hell, a brain injury that will affect us for along time.  Something I wouldnt wish on anyone.

I am the spouse of a veteran with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and mother of a 16 year old son.  Since my husband has been home from Afghanistan six years ago he has become violent, angry, and distant from our family.  Two weeks ago he threatened to kill me and I called the police (only because the VA counselor told me to do so) and received a temporary restraining order.  If I would have known that this would not get him/us more help I wouldn't have done it.  Now he is out of the home, took all the finances, and I am left with the house, bills, car payment, no food, no gas, no nothing.  I had to, temporarily, send my son to go live with his father out of state.  I didn't want him to see everything and be here when the house gets emptied; not to mention I don't have the finances to take care of him right now.  The gas got shut off last week and I had to use everything I had left in the bank to get it turned back on.

I have been in counseling since February for depression, anxiety, and possibly secondary PTSD myself.  His anger has nearly caused me to have a nervous breakdown.   I have Rhumetoid Arthritis and Fibromyalga so I have only been working part time for the past few years (12 hours a week at the store he manages).  I also have to have surgery on the nerves in both my feet.  How am I suppose to look for a full time job when I am suppose to have this surgery, end up riddled in pain after a short few hours of work, and have no gas for the car?

I have tried to get help from the Veteran's Association but have been told that spouses don't get help, there aren't any programs.  If he were still in the military I would but he got out last year; he couldn't handle it anymore.

My husband is mentally ill and no matter how much I try to talk to him about the help he and I need, and the counseling we should be in together, he doesn't want to hear it.  He just left me stranded and I have no clue of what to do.  I love my husband and want to help him/us but right now I am having a difficult time helping myself.  I worry they will take the car, forclose on the house; and when he gets better what home will my soldier have to come home to?

Is there anyone out there who can help me, whether it be adivce or financial?

CRIME VICTIMS COMPENSATION

If you have been the victim of a crime , you may be entitled to compensation for unreimbursed out-of-pocket costs resulting from the commission of a violent crime.

Costs related directly to the crime can be reimbursed up to the maximum level in each state. The average maximum is $25,000, but a number of states have higher or lower maximums. In addition, there may be sub-limits on some types of benefits, such as mental health counseling or funeral costs. 

The following expenses may be covered if they are not paid for a collateral source and if they resulted directly from the crime:

1) Medical and hospital care, and dental work to repair injury to teeth.

2) Mental health counseling.

3) Lost earnings due to crime-related injuries.

4) Loss of support for dependents of a deceased victim.

5) Funeral and burial expenses.

Check with the specific state where the crime occurred to determine exactly what costs are covered by the program. Many can pay other types of expenses, though these vary from state to state.

 But first you must know that you are NOT alone. We are here to listen and to help, if we can. There is help out there and it is possible to survive no matter what you are going through. You are NOT a Loser! You reached out for help, there is nothing wrong with that.  It takes great strength and great courage to do that.

 If you think its fun for us to be here, maybe you are right. I get a huge relief knowing that people have found help on aidpage. It makes my day to know that someone found just what they needed. There is nothing more gratifying than to see someone succeed.
